AUSTIN, Texas – The musical-themed vibe of the Austin airport has taken to the street with the new, illuminated, guitar shaped bus shelter for CapMetro. A ribbon cutting for this coolest of bus stops was held Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10 a.m. City Council Member Delia Garza, who is also Vice Chair, Capital Metro Board and City of Austin Mobility Committee member served as the keynote speaker and to cut the ribbon at the new bus stop.

The bus shelter is 45-feet high at the neck and 30-feet high at the body of the illuminated tilted guitar that changes colors. It is designed to look like a guitar body coming out of the ground with neck and strings. Located outside of baggage claim, in the lower drop off and pick up level, east end, the shelter construction includes sidewalk and accessibility improvements. Including benches, charging stations, and a 55 inch touchscreen monitor that measures 48 inches tall and 27 inches wide. The new shelter will serve the approximately 3,000 weekly riders who use the CapMetro 100 – Airport Flyer bus route that connects the airport to downtown and the 350 – Airport Blvd. route that connects the airport to north Austin.

The new, colorful bus stop is the product of creative collaboration between the City of Austin Department of Aviation and Public Works, and CapMetro along with designer RS&H and builder Piatra.
